Kenya School of Government Marks 100 Years as Ruku Calls for Integrity in Public Service

Kenya School of Government has commemorated a century of its existence with a strong accent on necessary virtues like integrity, professionalism, and leadership ethics in public service during the main event held at its Lower Kabete Campus in Nairobi.

During the Kenya School of Government’s 100 years anniversary and the respective 7th Graduation and Induction Ceremony of the Third Cohort of 483 Assistant County Commissioners (ACCs), Cabinet Secretary for Public Service Geoffrey Ruku said the School of Government for over a century has been the major avenue through which public servants have been made adequately capable such that they can serve Kenyans with professional conduct and integrity.

Ruku remarked that it’s through the quality of training, researching, and consulting by the Kenya School of Government that the public sector is able to deliver commendable service quality.

“For a Government to succeed in its agenda, it must have a well capacitated Public Service.

A competent, ethical and innovative body of public servants is what makes policies and programmes successful in changing lives, ” he explained.

On the contrary, the Cabinet Secretary deplored acts of deception in some departments of the public service with a focus on the human resource management officials who are suspected of tampering with the government’s payroll system.

The Cabinet Secretary noted that these acts go against the values that the Kenya School of Government upholds and Because of this the need to seek accountability and integrity of public servants.

The Principal Secretary Interior, Raymond Omollo, while at the event, observed that the Diploma in Public Administration course imparts the necessary skills and knowledge to National Government Administrative Officers (NGAOs) so that they can lead initiatives effectively, and utilize their public administrative capabilities, in enhancing service provision at the community level.

Omollo said that this program makes the officers capable of facilitating governance that’s both responsive and accountable, and focused on the citizens, throughout the country.

The graduation ceremony commemorated the handing over of the Diplomas in Public Administration to 483 Assistant County Commissioners, signifying the end of their induction training.

And, the occasion also marked the end of the Kenya School of Government’s year, long centenary celebrations, a celebration of 100 years of high, quality public service training, leadership development, and institutional capacity building in Kenya.
