Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has issued a public notice of a 45-day traffic disruption at the Gitaru Interchange along where the Southern and Western Bypasses intersect Waiyaki Way.
KeNHA Director General Kung’u Ndung’u, in a statement on Friday, said the closure of the Southern Bypass to the Southwestern Loop is to allow reconstruction at the South-Western Interchange slope and nearby slip roads.
The closure will be effective from June 28 to August 11, 2025.
Motorists travelling from Waiyaki Way to the Southern Bypass are advised to use the Kikuyu Link Road via the Sigona Golf Club exit.
Motorists traveling from Nakuru can use the just-built Southern Loop to access the Southern Bypass.
Motorists traveling from the Western Bypass to Waiyaki Way should also divert via the Muguku Interchange and merge via the Kikuyu link road.
KeNHA asked road users to follow traffic rules and directions to help traffic police and marshals facilitate free flow.
It’s not the first time this section has been closed. Back in late 2024, the same loop was shut for about a month to allow construction on the right-hand side carriageway.
The current upgrade aims to ease traffic, improve road access, and support economic activity across Nairobi and nearby towns.
