KDF Troops Bring Relief as Wajir Village Struggles With Water Shortage

In Bojiyare Centre of Wajir West, relief after Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldiers delivered emergency water to the area following weeks of severe shortage

For many families, water is now a daily ordeal. Women and children wake before dawn to walk long distances in search of a functioning borehole or water pan. When they are lucky enough to find water, they are rewarded with a few liters at most a pot of food or a quick drink.

Thus, on February 5, the sight of military water tankers approaching the village drew people outside, accompanied by jerricans, buckets, and drums. The queues were soon formed, stretching along the shade as some people tried to shield their children from the scorching sun.

This was part of a humanitarian mission undertaken by KDF soldiers around that area to assist locals cope with the harsh drought and adverse weather conditions.

At the scene, Major Hillary Pyaban said, “We understand the hardships faced by this community, and we have come to lend our support.”

“We’re here not just for security work, but to stand with you when you need us,” he told the crowd.

He encouraged people around him to continue assisting security agencies with information that would be useful in securing the region.

In the Bojiyare area, the Chief of Wardere Subdivision Khahiye thanked the administration for the assistance, as the situation had escalated.

“Our people have endured a lot. This water means everything to us,” he said.

The residents said the delivery would be a relief for not only the families but also the livestock and small businesses, which require the water every day.

As the last trucks drove away, many people were seen wheeling wheelbarrows and carrying full containers home, a small consolation on a hot, dusty afternoon.

For Bojiyare, however, this was not merely a military stopover; this was like a lifeline.
