Five suspected Al Shabaab militants have been eliminated by Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) Special Forces during a patrol conducted within the Lacta Mangai region of Boni Forest, Lamu County.
The militants, KDF reports, had been tracking leads when they met face to face with the suspects. The group, after the scuffle, confiscated different weapons and attack materials.
Among the materials recovered are AK-47 rifles, rocket-propelled grenade launchers, bullets, tents, solar panels, and materials used to make improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
Some of the militants escaped but got injured, according to reports.
The operation is being conducted under Operation Amani Boni, a security operation begun years ago to drive militants out of the dense Boni Forest and ensure peace in the region.
“Our aim is to ensure families within the Boni area live in harmony,” stated KDF in a press release. “We encourage the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity. We can defeat terrorism and bring peace together.”
