Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communications and the Digital Economy William Kabogo has commissioned three modern ICT hubs in Nyandarua County, marking another step in the government’s efforts to expand digital access, equip young people with technology skills and create employment opportunities through the digital economy.

The new facilities—Passenga Digital Hub in Rurii Ward, Wiyumiririe Digital Hub in Kanjuiri Ward and Mirangine Digital Hub in Mirangine Ward—were officially launched on June 24 in Ol Kalou Constituency.

Each hub is equipped with computers, reliable internet connectivity and digital learning resources to support youth, students and entrepreneurs.

Speaking during the launch, Kabogo said the initiative demonstrates the government’s commitment to bridging the digital divide and ensuring rural communities benefit from Kenya’s digital transformation.

“The facility represents a significant milestone in the government’s commitment to bridging the digital divide and creating opportunities for communities through technology-driven initiatives,” Kabogo said.

He noted that the hubs will serve as centres for innovation, digital learning and entrepreneurship, enabling young people to acquire practical ICT skills required in today’s job market.

Kabogo said the government is investing heavily in digital infrastructure to prepare young people for opportunities in online work, digital entrepreneurship and the growing technology sector.

“The government remains focused on expanding access to digital infrastructure, promoting innovation and creating employment opportunities through investments in information and communications technology,” he said.

According to the Ministry of ICT and the ICT Authority, the centres have already been connected to high-speed internet and equipped with modern computers, allowing residents to immediately access digital training, online learning, government services and business opportunities.

The Cabinet Secretary said the hubs are a key component of the government’s Digital Superhighway programme, which seeks to make digital services and technology accessible to every community across the country.

“The objective is for every hub to be equipped, connected, staffed and accessible to support an inclusive digital economy,” Kabogo said.

Residents and local leaders welcomed the project, saying the new facilities will enable young people to acquire marketable digital skills, improve their employability and explore online income-generating opportunities without travelling to major urban centres.

The launch of the three ICT hubs forms part of the government’s nationwide plan to expand fibre connectivity, increase access to digital services and promote innovation as a driver of economic growth.

Officials say the centres will play a vital role in preparing Kenyan youth for careers in technology, freelancing, entrepreneurship and the broader digital economy.
