Experienced editor and journalist Zubeidah Kananu has announced that she is exiting Standard Group PLC after a glorious 18-years at the media firm.
In a message of reflection, Kananu reflected on her time at Standard as a time of growth, change, and lasting friendships. She recognized the role her friends, mentors, and colleagues had played in shaping her career path as a journalist, news anchor, and editor. Recounting her experience to readers, she observed:.
“Having spent 18 incredible years at Standard Group PLC, a chapter that has shaped my professional life as a journalist, news anchor, and editor, I am starting a new chapter. These have been years of lessons, growth, challenges, and friendships that I will carry in my heart forever,” she wrote.
Kananu emphasized that while closing one book, her dedication to journalism is steadfast. She will continue to serve the media fraternity through writing in the Kenya Editors Guild, where she advocates for editorial autonomy, ethical reporting, and empowering the profession.
“Even as I close this chapter, my enthusiasm for journalism and for representing our fraternity in the Kenya Editors Guild remains as strong as ever. The story continues, and we will, together, continue shaping the future of the media,” she added.
