The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has clarified that only officially accredited party and candidate agents are permitted inside polling stations and tallying centres, warning against the presence of unauthorized individuals during the electoral process.

In a statement issued during the ongoing electoral exercise, the Commission said each participating political party or candidate is entitled to deploy only one agent at every polling station.

The electoral body further noted that only one chief agent per candidate is allowed at a tallying centre, emphasizing that Kenyan electoral laws do not recognize the role of so-called “super agents” or any other unauthorized persons within polling or tallying centres.

“There is no provision in law for super agents or any unauthorized persons to operate within polling or tallying centres,” the Commission stated.

IEBC also reminded political parties, candidates and their supporters that no individual will be allowed entry into a polling station while wearing clothing, badges, symbols or any items associated with a political party or candidate.

The Commission said the restrictions are aimed at safeguarding the neutrality of polling stations and ensuring voters are able to cast their ballots free from intimidation, influence or political campaigning.

The electoral agency urged the public to seek election-related information only from its official communication channels to avoid misinformation and speculation during the voting process.
