Huduma Kenya has asked Kenyans who applied for national identity cards, birth certificates and smart driving licences to check on their applications and collect the documents.
The agency said thousands of documents had already been processed but were still lying uncollected at different Huduma Centres across the country.
In a statement issued on Friday, August 28, Huduma Kenya said 173,811 national IDs, 39,063 birth certificates and 95,538 smart driving licences were ready for collection.
The announcement came after some Kenyans raised concerns online over delays in receiving the documents, with some questioning why they had taken weeks or months to get their applications.
Huduma Kenya said the problem was not that the documents had not been processed in all cases, noting that a large number were already available for collection.
“We understand that there are concerns online that Kenyans are not receiving their IDs, birth certificates and driving licences,” the agency said.
It urged those who had applied for the documents to check whether they were ready and visit the Huduma Centre where they made their applications.
“We have got tonnes of uncollected vital documents. Put a reminder on your phone to pick them up,” Huduma Kenya said.
21 Huduma Centres Extend Working Hours
To make it easier for Kenyans to collect the documents, Huduma Kenya said 21 centres had extended their working hours.
The selected centres will remain open for 12 hours, from 7am to 7pm, giving members of the public more time to collect their documents.
The centres are Makadara, Kibra, Eastleigh, City Square, Thika, Nakuru, Eldoret, Nyeri, Bungoma, Embu, GPO, Meru, Laikipia, Kisii, Kitale, Kericho, Kakamega, Kisumu, Mombasa, Migori and Makueni.
The documents are used to access a number of essential services, including employment, education, banking, healthcare and government services.
Huduma Kenya said the move was part of efforts to clear the backlog of processed documents that had not been collected by applicants.
Kenyans facing difficulties have also been advised to contact Huduma Kenya through its toll-free number 1919 or its verified social media platforms for assistance.
