Kenyans who apply for smart driving licences can now have their biometric data captured at different Huduma Centres across the country, the government announced.
In a statement on Saturday, Huduma Kenya confirmed it had partnered with the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) to enhance ease of application.
The biometric enrolment services will be provided at 15 Huduma Centres, namely Nairobi (GPO and Kibra), Mombasa, Nyeri, Garissa, Kisumu, Machakos, Embu, Meru, Kakamega, Eldoret, Thika, Kericho, Nakuru, and Kisii.
“Smart Driving Licence biometric services now available at selected Huduma Centres. Get it now,” said the agency.
The smart licence, a plastic card containing a chip, has replaced the old paper licence and is designed to increase security by storing driver information digitally.
Linked to NTSA’s Transport Integrated Management System (TIMS), the card makes it possible for driver records to be updated without any hassle.
The applicants must apply online through the NTSA TIMS portal, then book an appointment at any of the listed Huduma Centres where they will present fingerprints, a digital photo, and a signature.
The licences are issued after processing at either NTSA offices or the Huduma Centres.
The announcement comes days after Huduma Kenya requested Kenyans to pick up government documents that were ready.
As of September 10, the agency reported that 57,444 driving licences, 22,524 birth certificates, and 82,506 ID cards were ready for collection.
Huduma Kenya reported that smart driving licences take around five days to process, but IDs and birth certificates are usually ready within a fortnight.
Your government documents are available for pickup. Visit any of our 59 Huduma Centres across the country and pick them up today,” the agency said.
