The government has announced plans to set up seven new police stations in Tiaty, Baringo County, as part of efforts to bolster security and reinforce state presence in the banditry-prone region.

Speaking during a town hall meeting under the Jukwaa la Usalama initiative in Kabarnet, Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen revealed that four of the seven stations will be operational by December this year. “There’s virtually no government presence in many parts of Tiaty. For instance, Silale Ward has only one secondary school and no police station. We must be present where there’s a problem,” the CS said.

Tiaty Sub-County has long been labeled a hotspot for insecurity and cattle rustling. The absence of security infrastructure has often hampered government interventions and emboldened criminal activity.

To address the broader challenges in the region, Murkomen also announced plans to improve road infrastructure and mobile network coverage, both critical to timely security response and development.

The CS further disclosed that the government is working closely with the Baringo County Government and local leaders to ensure more residents acquire national identification cards.“We have 161,000 adults in this county without IDs—Tiaty being the most affected. We have to do something to fix this gap in documentation,” he said.

The CS further assured the residents that the security operation in the region will continue until peace is restored.
