The government’s ban on “disco matanga” remains in full force, with authorities warning that anyone found organizing these popular night mourning events will face arrest.

Job Kemey, the Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) for Rachuonyo East Sub County, reiterated that the practice is illegal across the country.

He further clarified that night vigils for the bereaved must end by 10 p.m., in line with government regulations.

Philemon Saera, the South Sub County Police Commander, linked “disco matanga” to immorality, the spread of diseases, and an increase in criminal activity.

“Disco matanga is banned nationwide, and we, as security forces, will ensure this directive is strictly enforced,” Commander Saera said, urging local chiefs to ensure compliance within their areas.

Saera also warned that any music systems used for disco matanga events would be confiscated by the police.
