Gor Mahia head coach Charles Akonnor has found himself at the center of heated debates after critics mockingly branded him a “plumber,” leading him to question his competence and reputation.
Akonnor has brushed off the criticism, stating that personal attacks will not distract him from his mission of restoring the club to the top.
The criticism follows after he selected and guided K’Ogalo into the CECAFA Kagame Cup semi-finals. He spoke after Gor Mahia edged Djibouti’s Garde Republicaine 1-0 at Kigali Pele Stadium on Thursday, with Paul Okoth fourth-minute goal securing victory in a match Gor finished with 10 men.
“Just that when things go the wrong way and the same negative people always come and talk about it…the other day somebody was telling me…I don’t read it…I’m a plumber. I mean, come on, I’m used to it,” Akonnor said.
He expressed his passion for the game and for K’Ogalo, noting that it is for the sake of the club that he wakes up every morning to do his job.
