Faith Kipyegon cemented her status as the greatest women’s middle-distance runner of all time by successfully defending her 1500m title and securing Kenya’s third gold medal at the Tokyo World Championships on Tuesday.

Kipyegon led a dominant Kenyan performance, guiding compatriot Dorcus Ewoi to a 1-2 finish while relegating Australia’s Olympic silver medalist Jessica Hull to third place.

Living up to expectations, Kipyegon controlled the race from start to finish, crossing the line in 3:52.15.

Ewoi surged past Hull in the final stretch to claim silver with a season’s best of 3:54.92.

Kenya’s Nelly Chepchirchir, the reigning Diamond League champion, finished just outside the medals in fourth, clocking a personal best of 3:55.25.
