Embakasi North MP James Gakuya has downplayed the political impact of former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, saying his influence will be limited to the Kisii region.

Speaking on Monday, Gakuya—who is a close ally of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua—expressed confidence that the Mount Kenya voting bloc will not split, despite former President Uhuru Kenyatta throwing his weight behind a different candidate.

“Matiang’i will only split votes from the Kisii region. I am totally confident that Mt Kenya votes will not split just because Uhuru Kenyatta has picked a different candidate,” said Gakuya.

The legislator further noted that the unity of the Mt Kenya region remains intact and that attempts to sway the bloc ahead of the 2027 polls will not succeed.
