The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has warned the public after arresting two people accused of pretending to be anti-corruption officers and asking for money.
The two were caught after they attempted to collect money from a member of the public under the pretence that they were officers of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission. The arrest was made after the commission received a report that one of the suspects contacted a member of the public and pretended to be an officer of the commission.
The suspect claimed that she could assist the member of the public with the case that the latter was involved in at a fee.
The trap was set off after the commission’s officers were called to the scene and arrested the two after they requested the money. The money was KSh20,000. The two suspects are currently held at the Integrity Centre in Nairobi.
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission has warned the public to be careful since there are still people who are impersonating the commission’s officers. The commission has asked the public to be careful and to make sure that they are dealing with the real officers of the commission before they do business with them.
This is not the first time that the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission has caught people impersonating the commission’s officers. Last year, the commission caught and arrested a group of seven people who were impersonating the commission’s officers.
The commission’s officers caught the suspects with job cards and stamps that they were using to pretend that they were officers of the commission.
