National Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi has dismissed claims that the prices of bread, milk and maize flour will skyrocket should the Finance Bill 2025 be approved into law.

This is after allegations emerged online that the bill, which is currently before the National Assembly, has increased VAT on the said commodities, sparking uproar.

However, speaking to Citizen TV, Mbadi termed the claim as propaganda being spread by the opposition in a bid to make Kenyans reject the bill.

The CS affirmed that the bill does not have such provisions.

"In the Finance Bill that is before the National Assembly, there is nowhere in that bill where we are putting VAT on bread, milk and unga are not even mentioned. That bill that is being talked about on social media is not my bill; it is a bill that is manufactured by the opposition, and you seem to have bought it. I heard that we are going to tax newborn babies; that is a propaganda bill," said Mbadi.
