The Devolution Empowerment Party (DEP–BUS) has reaffirmed its position as an independent opposition party, ruling out any coalition arrangements while outlining an ambitious plan to expand its national footprint ahead of the 2027 general election.

Speaking after the party’s National Delegates Convention (NEC) held in Embu County, party leader Lenny Kivuti said delegates resolved that DEP would remain a steadfast opposition force, anchored on devolution, equitable development, integrity in governance, and the rule of law.

Kivuti said the party is not in a coalition with any political party, insisting that DEP will engage on national issues independently and on equal footing with other political formations.

During the convention, delegates confirmed and endorsed the party’s national officials, while also committing the party to grassroots-driven politics that reflects the popular will of the people.

The NEC further resolved that DEP–BUS will reposition itself as a mass movement party, with plans to reorganise and expand into all regions of the country.

The party aims to field candidates for MCA, parliamentary, senatorial and gubernatorial seats in future elections.

However, Kivuti noted that the party will institute constitutional amendments to allow engagement with like-minded parties, with a view to forming a winning coalition ahead of the 2027 polls, while retaining its independence.

Youth and Gen-Z engagement emerged as a key pillar of the party’s future strategy, with the NEC resolving to integrate young people into party leadership, decision-making and development initiatives.

The party also pledged to actively champion the rights of women, persons living with disabilities and marginalised groups, describing inclusivity as central to its political philosophy.

Kivuti said DEP remains committed to offering a disciplined, transparent and well-structured political platform, guided by the Constitution of Kenya, the party constitution and the rule of law.
