Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku has urged the newly reconstituted Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to move swiftly in preparing for upcoming by-elections, including one in Mbeere North, Embu County.
Speaking during a church service in Nakuru on Sunday, Ruku emphasized the urgency for the IEBC to meet both its constitutional mandate and public expectations ahead of the 2027 General Election.
“We are asking the IEBC to move quickly. We can’t have people who are not thinking clearly; they are inciting Kenyans day after day. Let us meet them at the ballot box and send them home,” Ruku said.
The Mbeere North parliamentary seat fell vacant following Ruku’s own appointment to the Cabinet.
He warned that any delays in electoral processes could undermine Kenya’s democratic foundations, and called on the commission to put in place regulatory and logistical frameworks to ensure smooth and credible polls.
Ruku also took aim at opposition leaders, accusing them of seeking shortcuts to power instead of preparing for the ballot.
“If anyone wants to lead this country, let them face the people through the right channels — not through incitement or backdoor tactics,” he added.
