Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku has urged young people in the Mt Kenya region to focus on development and economic empowerment rather than opposition politics, saying the government’s priority remains improving livelihoods through inclusive growth programmes.
Speaking during a public engagement in the region, Ruku encouraged the youth to take advantage of government initiatives aimed at creating jobs, supporting entrepreneurship and expanding access to education and skills training.
“The future of the Mt Kenya region lies in development and economic empowerment,” said Ruku. “I urge our young people to seize the opportunities being created by the government and play an active role in building a stronger economy.”
The Cabinet Secretary said political differences should not distract citizens from supporting projects that improve infrastructure, healthcare, agriculture and youth empowerment, noting that national development requires unity and collaboration.
“Our youth should prioritise innovation, business and education instead of being drawn into divisive politics,” he said. “Development has no political party, and every Kenyan deserves better roads, better schools and more employment opportunities.”
Ruku assured residents that the Kenya Kwanza administration remains committed to implementing projects aimed at stimulating economic growth in the region, particularly through investments in agriculture, affordable housing and digital innovation.
“The government is listening to the concerns of young people and is committed to creating an environment where they can succeed,” he added. “Let us work together to transform our communities through hard work and unity.”
The CS also challenged local leaders to support development programmes and avoid political rhetoric that could divide communities, saying leaders should inspire hope and encourage meaningful participation in initiatives that benefit residents.
Residents who attended the meeting welcomed the government’s commitment to development, expressing optimism that continued investment in youth programmes and infrastructure would improve livelihoods and expand economic opportunities.
Ruku concluded by urging young people to become ambassadors of peace, innovation and development, saying Kenya’s progress depends on their active participation in productive ventures and nation-building efforts.
