American hip hop artist Cardi B has walked away with her third BET Award for Best Female Hip Hop Artist.
In an electric performance during the Sunday night ceremony, Cardi B arrived on a stage on a sport bike wrapped in lights, outshining her fellow nominees Doja Cat, Latto and GloRilla as she performed a mashup of several tracks from her second studio album, “Am I the Drama?” which was released last year.
Cardi B’s victory underscored her staying in power in a genre where competition is fierce. Her emotional acceptance speech resonated with her voice breaking with emotion.
Other artists who took stage to perform included Raye, Doechii, Don Toliver, Jill Scott, Eric Campbell, Rick Ross, George Clinton among many others.
Cardi B led with six total nominations, including Fashion Vanguard Award, Best Collaboration, Video Director of the Year, Album of the Year, Viewers’ Choice and Best Female Hip-Hop Artist. Kendrick Lamar and Mariah the Scientist followed with five total nominations.
The award ceremony was hosted by Druski from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.
