Bodaboda saccos and associations in Nairobi have strongly distanced themselves from an alleged endorsement of former Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko, instead reaffirming their unwavering support for Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja.

At a press conference, Chairman Denis Achieng, speaking on behalf of various sacco councils and national bodaboda associations, dismissed claims made by a group seen on social media on March 16, 2025.

He termed the purported endorsement a “mockery” of the industry, asserting that those involved do not represent the interests of bodaboda operators.”We are here today to categorically state that we are not part of the imposters seen on social media alleging that they have endorsed former Nairobi Governor His Excellency Mike Mbuvi Sonko as the bodaboda patron.

This is a mere mockery of the bodaboda industry as they do not and are not representing our interests,” Achieng stated.Instead, bodaboda leaders affirmed their loyalty to Governor Sakaja, whom they recognize as their true patron.

Achieng credited Sakaja for prioritizing the welfare of bodaboda operators by providing a conducive working environment and appointing their representatives to key county transport committees.”The governor has, in the history of our country, carried the bodaboda fraternity at heart.

He has allocated us a conducive working environment and given us an opportunity to sit in the transport community at the county under one Mr. Ken Onyango, which we are enjoying to date despite the setbacks,” Achieng added. Dismissing any move to shift allegiance, the bodaboda leadership made it clear they will stand by Sakaja’s administration until 2032.

They also condemned what they described as a scheme by “a few individuals who, without shame, are biting the hand that feeds them.”With this firm stance, Nairobi’s bodaboda sector has drawn a clear line, distancing itself from political maneuvering while emphasizing its continued support for Governor Sakaja’s leadership and commitment to their industry.
