Africa Championship silver medalist Lilian Odira won the women’s 800m at the BingwaFest athletics competition at Machakos Teachers’ College yesterday.
The Paris Olympian clocked 2:10.2, ahead of Vivian Chebet (2:10.5) and Dorica Isoe (2:12.0) in second and third respectively.
In the men’s 10,000m, Asbel Kiprono timed 29:22.6 to cross the finish line first as Francis Langata came second in 29:38.3.
Wiseley Kipkemoi came third after he clocked 20:41.3.
The 2022 World Under-20 1500m Champion Reynold Kipkorir shone in the Men’s 800m, clocking 1:50.0, ahead of Lenny Kotikash (1:50.5) and Allan Kipyegon (1:50.8) who finished second and third respectively.
Commonwealth Games bronze medalist Wiseman Were shone in the men’s 400m as Maureen Chepkoech emerged victorious in the women’s 10,000m.
The event, sponsored by sports gaming company Betika, saw winners in the men’s and women’s 10,000m pocketing Sh300,000 each in a prize money covering the top five positions.
Second and third-place finishers received Sh250,000 and Sh200,000 respectively.
Female athletes rewarded.
Winners of the men’s 5000m received Sh250,000 each followed by second Sh150,000, third Sh100,000, fourth Sh50,000, and fifth Sh30,000.
Winners in the 100m, 400m, 800m, and 1,500m will receive Sh150,000 each whereas second-placed finishers in the four events will get Sh100,000 each.
Third and fourth-place finishers were awarded Sh60,000 and Sh30,000 respectively with fifth-placers going home Sh20,000.
The event was a curtain raiser for Athletics Kenya Cross Country series opener at the same venue today.
