Bamburi Cement Plc has won three awards at the 2026 Kenya Road Safety Excellence Awards held at Serena Hotel in Nairobi on October 24.

The company was recognised for its efforts to improve driver safety, manage transport operations and develop new ways of assessing road safety among transporters.

The awards were organised by the Automobile Association of Kenya (AA Kenya) in partnership with the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA).

Bamburi Cement Supply Chain Director Mohamed Kassim said the awards recognised the work of employees and transport partners in promoting road safety.

“These awards are a testament to the hard work, dedication and vigilance of our employees and transport partners in protecting themselves and other road users. Road safety is a shared responsibility, and we remain committed to strengthening our safety practices and ensuring that every journey is undertaken with the highest regard for human life,” Kassim said.

The company emerged as the winner in the Driver Safety and Wellness Award category. It was recognised for measures put in place to protect drivers and improve safety on the roads.

These include the Digital Driver Pass, an In-Vehicle Monitoring System (IVMS), a ban on night driving and defensive driving training that is subject to audits.

Bamburi Cement also took first place in the Best Corporate in Road Safety Award for its transport safety management programme, which covers more than 1,000 drivers and over 25 transport partners.

The programme seeks to promote accountability and maintain safety standards across the company’s transport network.

The company also secured first place in the Road Safety Innovation Award for its Transporter Safety Maturity Audit Tool.

The tool uses a weighted scoring system to assess transporters across five road safety areas. It groups them according to their level of safety preparedness, offering a broader assessment than a simple pass-or-fail checklist.

According to the company, 16 transporters have been assessed using the tool. It has also been applied to rail operators.

The awards recognise individuals, companies and institutions working to improve road safety through practical measures, innovation and cooperation.

Bamburi Cement said it would continue incorporating driver training, monitoring systems and safety assessments into its transport operations to help protect employees, transport partners and other road users.
