Babu Owino’s Growing Clout in Nyanza Rattles ODM Ahead of 2027 Elections

Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino warm and seemingly growing electric reception in Nyanza region has forced the ODM top hierarchy to change tact as the country politically boils ahead of the 2027 elections.

Babu who has maintained his stance as a defender of the people against the ills perpetrated by President William Ruto’s regime, has not been afraid to take his gospel to ODM’s stronghold in Nyanza.

Over the week,he took on President William Ruto head on,while in Suna East,the Constituency represented by Minority Leader Junet Mohammed- a die hard supporter of the broadbased government arrangement.

He castigated President William Ruto over his ‘shoot on the legs’ remarks to police officers.

" We will not allow him to kill Kenyans.Such reckless statements violate basic human rights," Babu said as the crowd cheared.

The crown seemed to share his sentiments that the country was headed in the wrong direction due to the increasing cases of police brutality and abduction of citizens.

A day later,he took the same message to Rarieda in Siaya County as he joined the residents in condoling with the family of James Ayaga the Vice Chairman,Luo Council of Elders.

Mr.Ayaga lost his son Esao Ayaga who succumbed to short illness.

Babu emphasised the need for the state to adhere to the rule of law.He called on President Ruto to protect the rights of every Kenyans.

All this came after Homabay residents demanded that he addresses them twice at slain teacher’s Albert Ojwang’s burial.

His sentiments and the jubilant reception he has been receiving in the region has not gone unnoticed.

Former Korogocho MCA( ODM) has warned the party not to ignore the voices of young people and instead prepare to accommodate alternative views as the country transtions to the GenZs demands.

" We have problems affecting everyone that is why the people of Nyanza have no option but agree to what Babu is saying,"

It is not surprising that ODM party leader Raila Odinga consequently issued a statement castigating the President’s order.

Meanwhile some MCAs in Nairobi have warned that the party risks losing a lot of elective positives if it doesn’t field a Gubernatorial candidate at the expense of supporting Governor Sakaja.

" The governor is unpopular on the ground and it will be difficult for ODM to even try of thinking of adopting him as our candidate," a second time MCA who didn't want his name mentioned said.
