The Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary General Francis Atwoli has decried the sorry state of Nairobi City, santioning Governor Johnson Sakaja to take action.
Speaking during the COTU shops stewards meeting, Atwoli regretted the piling garbage in the city, terming Nairobi currently as dirtiest city in the world.
The trade unionist also pointed out the decolorised Nairobi buildings, asking Sakaja to issue a directive to the owners of these buildings to paint them as it is provided for in the law.
"We have a big problem in Nairobi. Nairobi is currently the dirtiest city in the world. We must tell each other the truth. Sakaja must work before 2027 comes. Mambo ya Glenfiddich jioni haiwezi kusaidia," said Atwoli.Atwoli further asked Sakaja to regulate hawking in the Nairobi CBD as effected by his Kisumu counterpart, Anyang’ Nyong’o.
"We have a rule to make pavements in Nairobi. We have a rule to force business owners to paint their houses. If you go to other countries like Algeria, the houses are painted by the owners, the county government will not spend any money," Atwoli added.
