Maendeleo Chap Chap Party leader Alfred Mutua has announced that the party will remain independent within the Kenya Kwanza Coalition while fully backing President William Ruto’s re-election bid in 2027.
In a statement issued after a meeting of the party’s National Governing Council, Mutua said the party had carefully reviewed the country’s political environment and assessed the progress made under the Kenya Kwanza administration before reaching its decision.
The party noted that although some Kenya Kwanza affiliate parties have opted to dissolve and merge with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), Maendeleo Chap Chap had chosen to maintain its identity as an independent political outfit within the coalition.
“As a Party, MCC has carefully reflected on the current political realities, listened to the voices on the ground, and evaluated the progress and development agenda being undertaken under the Kenya Kwanza Government led by H.E. President Dr.@WilliamsRuto,’Mutua said.
According to Mutua, the decision was guided by Article 38 of the Constitution, which guarantees freedom of political association and participation in democratic processes.
The former Machakos governor reaffirmed the party’s support for President Ruto’s development agenda, leadership and vision, saying Maendeleo Chap Chap would actively campaign for the President’s second term.
At the same time, Mutua said the party would continue expanding its structures across the country and positioning itself as a democratic and development-focused political movement.
He announced that Maendeleo Chap Chap plans to field candidates in all elective positions during the 2027 General Election, including governors, senators, members of parliament, woman representatives and members of county assemblies.
The party has also invited leaders interested in contesting for elective seats to begin preparing to seek nominations under the Maendeleo Chap Chap ticket ahead of the next polls.
