The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) General Assembly has expelled Vice President McDonald Mariga and six other National Executive Committee (NEC) members following a special meeting held in Meru on Saturday, November 7.
The decision affects seven officials accused of serious and repeated violations of the FKF Constitution and applicable FIFA regulations.
In a statement issued after the Special General Meeting (SGM), FKF said the General Assembly, which is the federation’s supreme decision-making organ, deliberated on allegations concerning the conduct of the officials and their actions within the organisation. Besides Mariga, those expelled include Robert Kenneth Macharia, the Central NEC representative, Bernard Korir Lagat of Upper Rift Valley, and Violet Kerubo Momanyi, the FKF Women Representative.
The other affected officials are Collins Opiyo Kalee, representing Nyanza, Gabriel Mghendi of Coast and Daniel Akala Shikanda, representing Nairobi.
Why did FKF expel Mariga and six other officials?
According to the federation, the decision followed consideration of several issues, including a purported NEC resolution passed on April 24, 2026, seeking the removal of FKF President and other federation officials. The Assembly also cited the officials’ repeated failure to attend duly convened NEC meetings, unauthorised communication on behalf of the federation and actions it considered contrary to football regulations.
FKF said the General Assembly exercised its authority under Articles 16 and 24 of the federation’s Constitution, which provide for the expulsion of members and dismissal of NEC officials. The meeting was attended by representatives of world football governing body FIFA and the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
Acting Sports Registrar Chacha J. Maroa and representatives from the State Department for Sports also attended the proceedings. FKF maintained that the resolutions were aimed at strengthening constitutional governance, institutional accountability and stability in football administration.
The federation said it would provide further communication on the implementation of the resolutions and the resulting administrative arrangements.
