The National Police Service (NPS) has intensified its crackdown on illegal alcohol production in Nairobi County after officers raided an illicit brewing operation in the Soweto area of Kasarani Sub-County.
During the operation conducted on Thursday, November 5, 2026, police officers recovered and destroyed thousands of litres of illegal alcoholic drinks and raw materials believed to have been used in the production of illicit brews.
According to the National Police Service, the officers destroyed approximately 4,000 litres of kangara, 2,800 litres of molasses, 160 litres of chang’aa and 80 litres of muratina.
The officers also dismantled brewing apparatus and distilling equipment found at the premises, dealing a blow to the illegal production network operating in the area.
In a statement, the police service warned that unregulated alcohol production poses a serious threat to public health and contributes to insecurity in communities.
“These unregulated activities not only threaten public health but also serve as key drivers of localised crime and social insecurity,” the National Police Service stated.

The service further reaffirmed its commitment to pursuing individuals and networks involved in the manufacture and distribution of illicit alcoholic drinks across the country.
The operation forms part of ongoing police efforts to disrupt illegal brewing activities and address security challenges associated with the sale and consumption of harmful alcoholic substances.
