Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has highlighted rising coffee and milk prices, lower farm input costs and ongoing infrastructure projects as part of the government’s efforts to improve livelihoods in Kiambu County.
Speaking during a public engagement at Gachege Centre in Gatundu North Constituency on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, Kindiki said the government was progressively supporting the coffee, tea and dairy value chains to increase farmers’ earnings.
He noted that coffee cherry prices had risen from KSh60 to KSh150 per kilogramme over the past four years, while milk prices had increased from KSh35 to KSh50 per litre. The government plans to raise the milk price to KSh65 per litre effective next month, according to the Deputy President.

Kindiki also pointed to reductions in agricultural input costs, saying a 50-kilogramme bag of fertiliser now costs KSh2,000, down from KSh7,000, while maize seed prices have fallen by half, from KSh300 to KSh150 per kilogramme.
He added that the cost of sexed semen used in artificial insemination for dairy production had dropped to KSh1,400 per dose from a previous high of KSh8,000.
Beyond agriculture, the Deputy President outlined ongoing and planned infrastructure projects aimed at improving access to markets, electricity, education and transport in Gatundu North and the wider Kiambu County.
He said the Kamwangi, Kanyoni and Gatukuyu fresh produce markets were nearing completion at costs of KSh380 million, KSh65 million and KSh56 million, respectively.

The government is also preparing to begin construction of a 620-bed student hostel at Mang’u Technical and Vocational College at a cost of KSh320 million, while KSh65 million is being spent to connect an additional 772 households to electricity under the last-mile connectivity programme.
On road infrastructure, Kindiki said 368 kilometres of the 1,285 kilometres prioritised for tarmacking across Kiambu County had been completed at a cost of KSh20 billion, out of a broader programme valued at KSh152 billion.
Among the completed roads he cited were sections of the 67-kilometre Thika–Kamwangi–Kanyoni–Gakoe–Magumu road, which links Kiambu and Nyandarua counties, and the Kahata–Gachege–Kanjuku Mau Mau road.
The Deputy President made the remarks while inspecting national government development projects in Gatundu North, where he was accompanied by Gatundu North MP Njoroge Kururia, Thika Town MP Alice Ng’ang’a, 14 Members of County Assembly, professionals and other local leaders.
