The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) has warned members of the public against applying for military jobs advertised in fake notices circulating online, saying it is not conducting any recruitment exercise.
In a statement issued on Monday, October 19, the military cautioned job seekers against engaging with the adverts, which claim to announce recruitment for the 2026/2027 financial year.
“KDF warns the public against fake recruitment adverts circulating online. No recruitment is ongoing,” the military said.
The notices, designed to resemble official government announcements, claim that applications for various military positions opened on October 16 and will run until November 27, 2026.
The advertised positions include General Service Officer cadets, combatants, tradesmen and ICT specialists.
However, the Ministry of Defence has disowned the notices, warning that they are not genuine recruitment announcements.
The documents also direct applicants to submit personal information, including academic certificates and national identity cards, through an unofficial website.
One of the notices contains scrambled and meaningless text, alongside what appears to be a fake approval stamp. The documents also list questionable anti-corruption hotline numbers, further raising concerns about their authenticity.
KDF said genuine recruitment opportunities are announced through mainstream media, the Ministry of Defence website and the military’s official social media platforms.
The military urged job seekers to ignore recruitment information from unofficial sources.
The ministry has also warned that adverts asking applicants to pay fees or submit their details through unofficial websites could be attempts to obtain personal information or money fraudulently.
The warning comes as some job seekers look out for opportunities to join the military. KDF last conducted a nationwide recruitment exercise in October 2025, with physical screening held across all 47 counties from October 13 to October 25.
About 5,000 recruits were selected during that exercise and later reported to the Defence Forces Recruit Training School in Eldoret for basic military training.
KDF has not announced a new mass recruitment exercise for 2026/2027.
