Kenyans travelling to Tanzania will face additional health checks following new measures introduced by the neighbouring country to prevent the spread of Ebola.

Tanzania’s Ministry of Health announced the measures on Saturday, October 17, requiring all incoming international travellers to complete an online health declaration and undergo screening at entry points.

Under the new rules, travellers must fill in the health form before departure or upon arrival and keep the QR code or reference number for verification.

Passengers will also undergo temperature checks at airports, land borders and seaports. Anyone suspected of having Ebola or another infectious disease will be referred for further medical assessment.

Travellers considered at high risk of infection will be monitored daily for 21 days through automated messages or other communication channels.

They will be required to respond to follow-up messages even if they leave Tanzania before the monitoring period ends.

The measures are contained in Travel Advisory No. 18, signed by Tanzania’s Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary, Dr Grace E. Magembe.

The advisory follows an Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and rising infections in Kenya, prompting authorities to strengthen surveillance at the country’s entry points.
