Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has outlined ongoing government development projects in Kirinyaga County, including road construction, electricity connections, housing, agricultural support and healthcare.

Speaking to residents in Thumaita, Gichugu Constituency, on Friday, October 16, Kindiki said 571 kilometres of roads had been prioritised for tarmacking across the county at a cost of Sh42 billion.

He said the government had also invested KES15 billion in fresh produce markets, affordable housing and student hostels.
At Baragwi, 220 affordable housing units have been completed, while construction of the Gichugu TVET hostel is expected to begin soon.

According to Kindiki, the county’s KES500 million Aggregation and Industrial Park is essentially complete, while farmers are benefiting from reduced input costs, improved coffee and milk incomes, and the distribution of 13 milk coolers.

On electricity, Kindiki said 32,000 additional households had been connected since September 2022, with Sh845 million allocated to connect another 10,800 households.

Gichugu has 28 last-mile electricity projects targeting 2,100 households at a cost of Sh75 million. Kindiki also flagged off materials to connect 114 homes in Gathoge, Piai and Kiumbui, alongside 86 homes in Kiburi.

He added that 480,000 of Kirinyaga’s 610,000 residents were enrolled for medical cover, as hospitals receive equipment and community health promoters provide preventive care.
