Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has highlighted a series of development projects in Nyeri County, including 775 kilometres of roads earmarked for tarmacking at a cost of Sh45 billion and housing investments worth Sh17 billion.

Kindiki said the government was also implementing electricity connectivity projects targeting an additional 12,000 households and public amenities, alongside investments in healthcare facilities, sports infrastructure and agricultural production.

Addressing residents at Giathenge in Othaya Constituency on Monday, October 12, 2026, the Deputy President said the engagement was aimed at updating residents on the progress of development projects and receiving feedback on priorities for the next budget year.

The electricity connectivity programme is being implemented at a cost of Sh650 million, while the Housing Fund is financing fresh produce markets, housing and student accommodation facilities worth Sh17 billion across the county, with additional projects valued at Sh5 billion in the pipeline.

On healthcare, Kindiki said Mwai Kibaki Level 6 Teaching and Referral Hospital in Othaya and Nyeri Provincial General Hospital, a Level 5 facility, had each received Sh1 billion to upgrade their infrastructure and improve their capacity to respond to growing demand for medical services.

The government is also investing in sports infrastructure, with Ruring’u Stadium and Othaya Stadium at advanced stages of completion. The two projects are valued at Sh900 million and Sh55 million, respectively.

Agriculture, a key economic activity in Nyeri County, also featured prominently in the Deputy President’s address, with farmers benefiting from reduced prices of fertiliser, seeds and sexed semen used in artificial insemination.

Kindiki further pointed to improved incomes from coffee and milk production, as well as the recent distribution of 13 milk coolers across the county to improve milk preservation and reduce post-harvest losses.

The development update comes as the government continues to emphasise infrastructure expansion, agricultural productivity and improved access to public services as key pillars of its development agenda.

The meeting brought together Nyeri Senator Wahome Wamatinga, Othaya MP Wambugu Wainaina, Nyeri Town MP Duncan Mathenge and Kieni MP Njoroge Wainaina.

Also present were Principal Secretary for Energy Alex Wachira, Principal Secretary for East African Community Affairs Dr Carol Karugu, Principal Secretary for Sports Elijah Mwangi, Members of County Assembly and other local leaders.
