A multi-agency security operation in Igembe Central, Meru County, has disrupted an illicit brewing operation, leading to the arrest of one suspect and the recovery of hundreds of litres of illegal alcohol.
The operation was conducted in Irindie Village after security agencies received a tip-off on suspected illicit brewing activities. The team targeted three homesteads believed to be involved in the production of illicit brews.
According to the National Police Service, officers recovered 600 litres of an illicit brew locally known as βMunaβ and 10 litres of changβaa during the operation.
The security agency said the operation demonstrated the importance of coordinated enforcement and timely intelligence in identifying and disrupting illegal alcohol production.
The National Police Service said it continues to conduct multi-agency operations across the country targeting illicit brewing and related activities, with enforcement efforts focused on illegal production, distribution and consumption of alcohol.

The service also commended members of the public for providing information that assists security agencies in tackling illicit brews and urged Kenyans to continue reporting suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through emergency services.
The latest operation comes amid continued enforcement efforts against illicit alcohol, with security agencies targeting production sites and supply networks as part of measures to curb the spread of illegal brews.
