Detectives in Kiminini, Trans Nzoia County, have arrested a 54-year-old man in connection with the death of a 35-year-old mentally challenged man who was allegedly attacked by a mob after being mistaken for a thief.
According to reports, the victim Dennis Imboha had strayed from his homestead to another homestead at Milimani Location, Kiminini Sub, County.
Detectives revealed that the residents suspected Imboha was a thief and subjected him to a violent assault. Imboha suffered several severe injuries and was rushed to Kijana Wamalwa Hospital.
However, Imboha later succumbed at hospital where he was undergoing treatment.
Following his death, detectives visited the scene, collected evidence, and examined the area with the homicide. His body was taken to the hospital mortuary, awaiting a post, mortem.
An intelligence prompted operation in Milima Location, leading to the apprehension of 54-year-old Joseph Apollo, who is in custody awaiting arraignment.
The Director of Criminal Investigations also said the investigation is still continuing with detectives following up new leads to identify and arrest other suspects who are possibly involved in the assault.
The DCI has called on members of the public
to avoid mob justice and allow law enforcement agencies to handle suspected criminal cases.
