The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) and the National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK) have agreed to deepen collaboration in the fight against corruption and promote ethics and integrity across the country.
The two institutions held a consultative meeting to explore ways of using the Church’s extensive grassroots networks to reach communities and strengthen public awareness on ethical conduct.
EACC Chairperson Dr. David Oginde said the Church’s presence at the community level provides an important platform for promoting integrity and mobilising citizens against corruption.
He said corruption continues to hinder national development and called for collective efforts among institutions and citizens to address the challenge.
EACC Chief Executive Officer Abdi Mohamud reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to implementing resolutions arising from the discussions. He also proposed training religious leaders to enhance their capacity to engage communities on ethics and integrity.
The NCCK delegation, led by Secretary General Rev. Canon Chris Kinyanjui, recommended increased efforts to promote ethical behaviour among public officers and sensitise citizens, particularly voters, against bribery during elections.
Rev. Kinyanjui reaffirmed the Church’s commitment to partnering with EACC in promoting a culture that rejects corruption.
The meeting further proposed establishing a formal partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding and developing a joint work plan to guide the collaboration and its implementation.
