President William Ruto has welcomed Bloomberg’s interest in investing in Kenya, saying the global financial and media company’s presence could help attract more international investors and showcase opportunities in the country.

Ruto made the remarks after meeting Bloomberg founder and former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York.

The President said the discussions focused on potential partnerships in public health, clean energy and climate action, including plans to establish a Green Technology Accelerator Hub in Kenya.

According to Ruto, the proposed hub would support innovation, help scale green solutions and accelerate Africa’s transition towards a sustainable economy.

“We welcome Bloomberg’s interest in investing in Kenya,” Ruto said, adding that the company’s presence would help attract more investors and showcase the growth of the Nairobi Securities Exchange.

He said Bloomberg’s global network could also help amplify Kenya’s and Africa’s economic opportunities and progress to international audiences.

The talks also covered Kenya’s preparations to host the second Africa Clean Cooking Summit in January 2027. The summit is scheduled for January 27 and 28 in Nairobi and will bring together governments, investors, development partners and other stakeholders to advance clean cooking access across Africa.

Ruto said Kenya and Bloomberg would partner around the summit as the country seeks to expand access to clean energy and improve livelihoods.

The President has increasingly positioned clean cooking as both an energy and investment priority. Kenya has identified a $600 million investment opportunity in institutional clean cooking, covering schools, healthcare facilities and correctional services.

The planned Green Technology Accelerator Hub would add to existing efforts to support African climate and energy-focused enterprises. Kenya already hosts green technology accelerator initiatives aimed at providing startups with technical support, mentorship and access to funding.

The Bloomberg engagement comes as Ruto continues his push for greater international investment in Kenya, particularly in sectors linked to technology, clean energy, financial markets and climate action.

The proposed partnerships also align with Kenya’s broader efforts to position Nairobi as a hub for green investment and innovation while attracting global capital into projects across the country and the wider African market.
