First-year university students who want to change their courses have been advised to approach their respective universities instead of contacting the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS).
KUCCPS said students seeking an interfaculty transfer within the same university should follow the process set by their institutions.
The placement agency issued the clarification following questions from newly admitted students who wanted to switch courses but remain in the universities where they had been placed.
According to KUCCPS, “Interested students should approach their respective universities because the process is usually started internally by the universities.”
In other words, those wishing to change faculties or courses should first inquire about the requirements and process from their university.
The decision on the transfer is made by the university and not KUCCPS.
Inter-University Transfers
The clarification applies only to students who wish to switch courses at the same institution.
Those wishing to switch universities can still apply for inter-institutional transfers through KUCCPS.
KUCCPS had previously said that those who sat the 2025 KCSE examinations but missed the previous transfer process can still apply for transfer in 2026 and 2027.
“If they sat the KCSE exam in 2025, they can still apply for transfer this year, 2026, and/or next year, 2027,” KUCCPS said.
KUCCPS is currently processing inter-university transfer applications submitted by eligible candidates.
The agency said transfer letters will be generated once the process is completed.
Students who applied for inter-university transfers have been urged to regularly check their KUCCPS portals to confirm the outcome of their applications, as successful transfer letters will be sent through the student portal.
