The Government is stepping up efforts to translate Kenya’s health priorities into tangible investments aimed at advancing Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and reducing preventable maternal and newborn deaths.

Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo said the push follows the recently concluded inaugural Kenya Health Summit, which renewed the national conversation on Kenya Beyond Vision 2030 and the need to strengthen healthcare delivery.

The commitment is also anchored in the Every Woman Every Newborn Everywhere (EWENE) framework, which seeks to accelerate progress in improving maternal and newborn health outcomes.

Omollo cited the completed Mama Rachel Ruto Specialist Hospital–Mutuini in Dagoretti South as a key example of the Government’s investment in specialised healthcare. The facility has been transformed from a 40-bed centre into a 400-bed Level 5 referral hospital.

The hospital is currently being equipped with critical medical systems, including CT scanners, dialysis units and modern theatre equipment.

It will provide specialised maternity and newborn care, intensive and high-dependency care, renal services, advanced diagnostics and neonatal support, including human milk banks.

The State Department for Internal Security and National Administration will support coordinated implementation, stakeholder engagement and local oversight as the facility prepares for full operations.
