Students who sat the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination and missed the latest university transfer window may still have another chance to change their institutions.
The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has clarified that the students remain eligible to apply for an inter-institutional transfer in 2026 and 2027.
The clarification comes after students who missed the recently closed transfer window sought to know whether they would still be allowed to change their universities or courses.
“If they sat for KCSE in 2025, then they are eligible for transfer in 2026 and or 2027,” said KUCCPS.
The clarification is now that missing the 2026 deadline to apply for a transfer will not mean that the 2025 KCSE students are barred from applying for transfer in a future exercise.

KUCCPS started the 2026 inter-institutional transfer in July for students placed in universities and TVET institutions.
The transfer was meant for the 2023, 2024 and 2025 KCSE class.
The applicants were supposed to apply by August 14, 2026.
With the window now closed, KUCCPS has started processing the applications submitted by students.
The placement agency has also assured students who applied for transfers that they do not need to panic if they have not yet received their transfer letters.
“The processing of the transfer letters is ongoing. The letter will be generated automatically for download by the applicant through the student portal as soon as it is ready,” KUCCPS said in response to a student.
Students who applied have been advised to keep checking their KUCCPS portals for updates.
Once a transfer letter is generated, the applicant will be able to download it from the student portal and use it when reporting to the new institution.
The clarification comes as students who sat the 2025 KCSE examination begin reporting to universities and TVET institutions for their first year of study.
For those who missed the current transfer window, KUCCPS says there is still an opportunity to apply in a subsequent cycle.
