The Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, invited the key partners and sponsors of the 14th Edition of the National Police Service (NPS) Track and Field Championships for a round-table discussion.

The high-level engagement brought together corporate stakeholders supporting the anticipated championships set on May 26-27 at the Ulinzi Sports Complex.

The upcoming event has drawn strong support from a range of financial and sports institutions, including Kenya National Police DT SACCO, Harambee SACCO, The Nairobi Sports House, Co-operative Bank of Kenya, Kenya Commercial Bank, National Bank of Kenya, and Diamond Trust Bank.

Kanja said at the session that security and economic growth go hand in hand as a business environment that is secure and stable is what will make businesses thrive. Besides that, regular playing of sports among officers as a way of physical fitness development has an indirect impact on the level of service delivery and public safety, he indicated.

Moreover, the Inspector General pointed out that athletics have a positive impact on police officers in many ways and even compared it to a tool that shapes discipline teamwork unity and many more qualities in the officers.

He highlighted the importance of sports in keeping young people away from crime by giving them healthier options.Kanja appreciated the dedication Athletics Kenya has shown in consistently backing the NPS, a strategy that has helped establish it as a powerful player in athletics both in the region and internationally.

He appealed to the Local Organising Committee to be responsible for the use of resources and also exhorted the competing athletes to be examples of discipline and to follow the competition rules very strictly.

The yearly championships continue to be a significant event in the NPS calendar, not only gathering officers from different parts of the country but also enhancing the relationship between the security forces and private partners.
