EPRA

The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has uncovered an illegal fuel operation in Nairobi, recovering about 800 litres of fuel.

The raid was carried out on Friday by EPRA officers working together with the Energy Police Unit.

According to EPRA, the illegal site was located along Nadume Road, off Lunga Lunga Road in the Industrial Area, not far from fuel depots run by Kenya Pipeline Company.

It is believed that the perpetrators were stealing fuel, most likely with plans to distribute the fuel within the city.

According to officials, during the crackdown, various containers, pipes, jerricans, and other equipment suspected of being used in the crime were found.

Notably, there were no arrests made during the crackdown.

EPRA stated that the suspects were able to flee because they had information that the police were coming their way.

“While we secure the premises, we are still looking for the culprits,” the commission stated.

The area where the crackdown was carried out is one of the main routes through which fuel is distributed in the Kenyan capital.

This development happens at a time when the country is experiencing fuel problems. Recently, it was reported that contaminated fuel had found its way into the market.

The authorities are investigating the matter further.
