The summer Wireless festival has been cancelled after American rapper Kanye West now known as Ye, has been denied access to United Kingdom(UK), following renewed controversy over his past antisemitic remarks.
In a statement from the organisers said, the wireless festival was cancelled and ticket holders would be fully refunded. According to government officials, Ye’s Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) application was cancelled because the U.K. would not be “conducive to the public good,” a legal standard often used in immigration decisions involving public safety or social cohesion concerns.
“Kanye West should never have been invited to headline Wireless,” Prime Minister Keir Starmer said in a statement posted on social media.
Wireless Festival organisers stated that the event could not proceed without its headline act and confirmed: further announcements regarding future editions of the festivals will be communicated.
Authorities have not communicated whether the travel ban is permanent or subject to review.
