Former Nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba has claimed that recent remarks by William Ruto directed at opposition leaders were influenced by intelligence briefings regarding the 2027 General Election.
In a statement, Orwoba alleged that the President’s reaction followed a presentation by the National Intelligence Service (NIS), which she claims indicated a possible decline in his electoral standing ahead of the next polls.
According to Orwoba, the briefing is what triggered the Head of State’s response, linking it to the ongoing verbal exchanges between the government and the United Opposition.
“President William Ruto lost his cool because the National Intelligence Service (NIS) showed him the numbers…,” she claimed, suggesting that the data pointed to challenges in the 2027 presidential race.
The former nominated senator who is now alligned to the opposition also claimed that the Head of State on several occasions, displayed a temperamental side, particularly in high-pressure situations.
Orwoba said she had witnessed the president lose his temper multiple times, attributing the reactions to frustration over what she described as incompetence and unmet expectations from those around him.
“I saw him angry a couple of times. He was angry because of incompetence, not getting his way, as he is a guy who likes having his way all the time and expects his foot soldiers to meet those expectations,” She said during an interview on the Iko Nini podcast on March 20, 2026.
Orwoba further claimed that one such account was shared with her by former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, who allegedly told her he nearly got into a physical confrontation with Ruto during a past visit to Kisumu.
“Matiangi told me there is a time he almost had a physical confrontation with Ruto in Kisumu; it is a true story,” she stated, though she did not provide additional details about the incident.
She also pointed to recent political events, including the Gen Z-led protests, where she claimed the president appeared visibly agitated.
In addition, she recalled a parliamentary meeting that she described as tense, alleging that Ruto cut discussions short to proceed to a press briefing.
“I saw Ruto angry many times; during Gen Z, he was angry, and I saw it during the parliamentary meeting… he said this is not a forum to explain; we are going for a press conference. He is a temperamental person,” she added.
Her remarks come amid heightened political exchanges involving the president. Recently, Ruto responded to criticism from former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua over his weight loss.
