The Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) on Wednesday through their social media issued a public notice to their stakeholders to enhance compliance with their guidelines.
In a notice seen by Tukio, the board directed all filmmakers, distributors, ,broadcasters and exhibitors to make sure that they have complied with the film and stage plays act.
They said that violattors of the act might risk pelnalties. They reminded the players that the board is mandated by the government to regulate the creation, broadcasting, possession, distribution and exhibition of film and audiovisual content in Kenya.
“The Board wishes to remind all filmmakers that Section 4 of the Act requires every filmmaker to obtain a filming licence from the Board prior to undertaking any filming activities within the Republic of Kenya.” statement read.
The board maintained that the above stakeholders must obtain licenses before undertaking any production within the Country.
KFCB further stated that Sections 13 and 14 of the Act require all films and related promotional materials including posters and trailers to be submitted to the Board for examination and classification before they are distributed, broadcast or exhibited to the public.
