Cabinet Secretary for Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs, Hassan Ali Joho, attended the opening ceremony of Africa’s premier mining conference, Mining Indaba 2026, in Cape Town, South Africa.
The conference brought together global leaders, policymakers, investors, and industry executives to discuss Africa’s vast mineral potential as a driver for economic transformation.
Key discussions focused on value addition, regional collaboration, improved safety standards, and people-centered mining that benefits local communities.
CS Joho said Kenya is fully aligned with these continental goals and is implementing reforms to promote responsible mining, enhance local content, ensure investment certainty, and foster sustainable development across the sector.
He was accompanied by Principal Secretary for Mining Harry Kimtai, Kenyan High Commissioner to South Africa H.E. Jane Ndurumo, and senior officials from the Ministry.
The delegation highlighted Kenya’s commitment to positioning itself as a competitive and trusted mining destination in Africa.
