Governors from Nyeri, Nyandarua, Kirinyaga, and Murang’a counties have announced a full-year waiver on business licence fees for beneficiaries of the National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA) programme.

In addition, the counties will offer business training, mentorship, and market access support to help youth-led enterprises grow and remain sustainable.

The initiative is intended to lower start-up costs, enabling young entrepreneurs to invest more in stock and improving the survival rate of their businesses.

The announcement was made at Kabiru-ini Showground in Nyeri during the NYOTA start-up capital disbursement ceremony, presided over by President William Ruto.

Approximately 6,000 youth from the four counties received Sh22,000 each from the Sh50,000 start-up capital allocation, with an additional Sh3,000 deposited into their NSSF accounts.

The five-year, Sh5 billion NYOTA programme targets 820,000 vulnerable and unemployed youth nationwide, providing work experience, skills recognition, and business support.
