Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has urged security agencies to maintain their professionalism and refrain from engaging in political matters, emphasizing that the misuse of the criminal justice system as a political tool is an outdated strategy.
Gachagua’s statement comes amid concerns over the harassment of his office staff and Members of Parliament perceived to be allied with him.
He expressed his disappointment that the political climate has reverted to tactics reminiscent of the past.
“President William Ruto and I, upon taking office, pledged to the people of Kenya that the criminal justice system would never again be employed in the management of politics.” he said.
He revealed that he has uncovered a troubling scheme aimed at bringing false charges against three members of his staff and two MPs, James Gakuya of Embakasi North and Benjamin Gathiru Mejja Donk of Embakasi Central.
He described the allegations as an “evil scheme” intended to link them to violent protests that occurred in late June, in what he labeled a desperate attempt to tarnish his reputation and lay the groundwork for potential impeachment proceedings against him.
“Kenyans are intelligent,” Gachagua asserted. “They understand the factors that led to public protests and recognize the genuine issues plaguing our nation. They know that I, Rigathi Gachagua, am not among the problems.”
