A tragic fire that gutted the three-roomed family house of Tharuni village in Limuru took the life of a nine-year-old child on Friday night.

It is reported by the witnesses that the minor, a student of Rironi Primary School, was left alone in the house when the fire broke out. The parents of the child were said to have gone to a neighbour’s funeral.

The residents came to the rescue of the child and tried to put out the fire but lacked enough water to do so.

When the fire was finally controlled, the house had already been completely destroyed by the fire and nothing was left. Although the fire department is still investigating, the authorities say that the cause of the fire is unknown at this time.

After the incident, the local leaders have advised the people not to be negligent, especially when leaving children unattended, and they have also requested the county government to facilitate access to emergency services in the rural areas.

The child’s body was taken to a local morgue awaiting the ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌investigations.
