Lawyers to Organize Protest March After Assassination of Advocate Kyalo Mbobu

Prominent lawyer Kyalo Mbobu died from excessive bleeding and severe injuries after being shot eight times, Chief Government Pathologist Johansen Oduor has confirmed.

Speaking on Thursday after conducting a postmortem examination, Oduor said two bullets were recovered from Mbobu’s body, further revealing the extent of the fatal attack that has shocked the country.

Police had earlier noted that some spent cartridges were missing from the lawyer’s vehicle, raising new questions about the incident.

Mbobu, a respected advocate with over three decades of practice, was ambushed on the evening of September 9 in a drive-by shooting along Magadi Road, near the Galleria Brookside area, as he headed home.

Preliminary police findings indicate he was shot five times in the head, killing him instantly. Officers at the scene managed to recover three spent cartridges.

Investigators disclosed that before the shooting, Mbobu had held a meeting with unidentified individuals at a city hotel.

He later proceeded to another engagement in the CBD before driving towards his residence through Lang’ata Road.

It was during a traffic snarl-up along Magadi Road that gunmen struck, spraying his vehicle with bullets.

The murder has sparked outrage within the legal fraternity. The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) condemned the killing in strong terms, with President Faith Odhiambo calling it a “brutal and premeditated assassination” that underscored the growing risks facing lawyers in Kenya.

Mbobu’s family echoed the calls for justice, describing him as the pillar of their household of 12 siblings and insisting on swift answers from authorities

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen on Thursday said detectives had made “significant progress” in the investigations. He confirmed that several persons of interest had been identified and were being interrogated, while more names were being pursued.

“We have been in touch with the DCI since this incident happened, and I am happy to note that there is some progress. Some persons of interest have been identified and are being interrogated. We thank the eyewitnesses who have already come forward and others who continue to provide information,” Murkomen stated.

The CS assured the public that the probe would be expedited and urged anyone with more information to report to the nearest police station.
